BUILDING DIGNITY is currently run by the KIP Kitakyushu Installation Project Organizing Committee.
Members of the Committee consist of architects, artists, designers, researchers, professors, and other professionals concerning local community and culture.BUILDING DIGNITYの活動は、現在は北九州インスタレーションプロジェクト実行委員会が主催しています。
実行委員会のメンバーは、北九州市を拠点として活動する建築家、アーティスト、デザイナー、研究者などにより構成されています。
The first building of our interest is a former Tokyo Rope Mfg. Kokura Plant office building. The building, completed in 1906, is one of the oldest remaining brick masonry buildings in Kitakyushu City.
Located in downtown Kokura district, the plant used to manufacture the wire ropes for the coal mines in Chikuho Area.
The building has been unused for more than a decade, resting at the corner of the Yoshikawa Seimitsu Co., Ltd.’s campus.
[mapsmarker marker=”1″]プロジェクトの最初の対象物件となったのは、旧東京製綱小倉工場の赤煉瓦事務所棟です。この建物は、東京都麻布に本社のあった東京製綱の九州地区の拠点として、1906年（明治39年）に竣工した工場事務所建築です。
北九州市小倉北区の中心部からもほど近いこの工場では、主に筑豊炭田の炭鉱の捲揚機用のワイヤロープを製造していました。若戸大橋をはじめとするわが国の最初期の吊り橋に使用されたワイヤロープを製造したのもこの工場です。
その後、敷地は東京製綱から吉川工業株式会社に譲渡され、事務所棟と倉庫棟の二棟の赤煉瓦建築が解体されることなく保存されています。現在は吉川工業グループの吉川精密株式会社の工場敷地内であることから、通常は公開されておらず、一般の方は立ち入ることができません。
